About the position

The Supervisory Transportation Security Officer (STSO) position at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) involves overseeing security operations at Tweed - New Haven Airport. The role is critical in safeguarding civil aviation and other transportation modes by mitigating threats and ensuring the safety of passengers and cargo. The STSO will supervise Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) and Lead Transportation Security Officers (LTSOs), making independent security-based decisions and engaging in strategic planning initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and supervise subordinate employees in pre-board security screening of persons and their baggage.
  • Oversee screening checkpoint(s) and baggage screening operations, including equipment and personnel management.
  • Participate in the development of new policies and procedures based on observations of work.
  • Engage in strategic planning initiatives and workforce planning for TSA.
  • Prepare various communications such as morning briefings and checkpoint logs.
  • Develop incident information and reports for Law Enforcement Officers (LEOs) and superiors.
  • Serve as a first line supervisor, assigning work and reviewing performance of subordinates.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National status.
  • At least 18 years of age at the time of application.
  • One year of specialized experience related to the duties of a Supervisory Transportation Security Officer.
  • Six months of experience as a work leader, team leader, or supervisor in any work environment.
  • Ability to pass a background investigation and obtain a Secret level security clearance.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
