About the position

The Supervisory Transportation Security Officer (STSO) position at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) involves overseeing security operations at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). The STSO is responsible for mitigating threats against civil aviation and other transportation modes, supervising Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) and Lead Transportation Security Officers (LTSOs), and ensuring the effective screening of people, property, and cargo. This role requires independent decision-making based on intelligence and critical thinking, as well as the development of policies and procedures to enhance security measures.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and supervise pre-board security screening of persons and their baggage/cargo.
  • Oversee daily operations of screening checkpoints and baggage screening, including equipment and personnel management.
  • Participate in developing new policies and procedures, recommending changes based on observations.
  • Engage in strategic planning initiatives and prepare reports for TSA and superiors.
  • Develop critical thinking skills to identify and mitigate security threats.
  • Prepare communications such as briefings, logs, and incident reports for Law Enforcement Officers (LEOs).
  • Serve as a first line supervisor, assigning work, setting priorities, and evaluating performance of subordinates.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National status.
  • At least 18 years of age at the time of application.
  • Favorable Background Investigation (BI) completion.
  • Obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance.
  • Pass pre-employment Drug Screening and subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Selective Service registration required.
  • Ability to work various shifts and overtime as needed.
  • Meet medical requirements for screening work, including physical abilities assessment.
