About the position

The Supervisory Veterans Service Representative (Assistant Coach) plays a crucial role in the Veterans Benefits Administration, acting as the full alter ego of the Team Coach. This position involves sharing responsibilities with the Coach and ensuring the continuity of team supervision within the Veterans Service Center, specifically in the Benefits Eligibility Support Team (BEST) or Pension Management Center (PMC). The Assistant Coach is integral to the supervisory team, ensuring quality and timeliness of service while managing resources effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the duties of the Team Coach in their absence and share responsibilities daily.
  • Ensure the team's quality and timeliness of service meets performance indicator goals.
  • Responsible for the cost-effective use of resources to accomplish the team's assigned outcomes.
  • Gather, interpret, and recommend appropriate action based on a wide range of data addressing service concerns.
  • Analyze and interpret laws, rules, and regulations and their effect on the establishment of new policies, procedures, and/or methods of operation.
  • Monitor leave balances, approve/deny leave, and certify timecards.
  • Run production and workload reports.
  • Communicate with senior management.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must meet time-in-grade requirements for GS-12 position, having served 52 weeks at GS-11 or higher.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-11 in the normal line of progression for the occupation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in quality assurance or auditor functions related to claims processing and benefit determination.
  • Experience in adjudication and authorization of compensation, pension, and claims.
  • Experience in determining to reconsider claims appeal cases and preparation/presentation of such cases.
