About the position

The Head Cheerleading Coach is responsible for leading and managing the cheerleading program at the school, ensuring it operates within the school's philosophy. This role includes overseeing game details, assigning duties to assistant coaches, and maintaining communication with staff and the community. The coach must also ensure safety procedures are followed and that the program adheres to legal and school board policies.

Responsibilities

• Operate a program within the philosophy of the school.
• Administer game details for home and away contests.
• Assign assistant coach's specific duties.
• Ensure that all information and materials are conveyed to assistants.
• Be fully aware of the legal responsibilities of the activity and take precautions against negligence.
• Provide care, maintenance, and ordering of equipment and facilities for the entire program.
• Recommend assistant coaches and letter winners.
• Use professionally sound coaching methods.
• Set a good example for assistants.
• Be highly competent in the activity (i.e. rules, techniques, strategies, and skills).
• Motivate the staff and players toward desired goals.
• Set the pattern for wholesome public relations within the school, community, and other schools involved.
• Interpret the program to the community as part of the complete educational program.
• Review current developments, literature, and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
• Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
• Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the principal or athletic director.

Requirements

• Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of any General Education Development (GED) Testing Program.
• Valid Florida Educator Certificate or Athletic Coaching Certificate from the Florida Department of Education.
• Knowledge of the sport and the ability to impart this knowledge.
