About the position

The Supplier Development Engineer will serve as a key technical interface between direct material suppliers and manufacturing sites, focusing on ensuring the delivery of reliable and compliant goods and services. This role is integral to the Supplier Development & Performance Management team, which aims to maintain an uninterrupted supply of products and services to patients. The engineer will engage in proactive activities related to packaging and will be involved in the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate potential suppliers' technical capabilities against defined criteria to ensure selection of partners who can meet the Company's business requirements.
  • Develop mitigation plans to address gaps and risks found during supplier selection and manage resolution of those plans to ensure launch readiness and successful routine production.
  • Evaluate and ensure alignment between Company and supplier specifications to avoid future deviations and supply issues.
  • Drive improvements in supplier capabilities while collaborating with Global/Regional Procurement, Science & Technology, and other stakeholders.
  • Execute Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) with high-risk suppliers.
  • Maintain flexibility to travel domestically and within the region, approximately 25%, to supplier/stakeholder locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or science.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Quality, Technical, or Manufacturing/Packaging Operations.
  • Ability to work in dynamic environments with potentially conflicting priorities.
  • Demonstrated success working independently with all levels of the organization to get results, while fostering collaboration and maintaining a customer-focused mindset.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills including professional and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain commercial relationships with suppliers.
  • Ability to work in a matrix organization and leverage expertise from other internal departments.
  • Appreciation and respect for diversity of thought and inclusion.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Lean Six Sigma certification (e.g. Green Belt/Black Belt) or equivalent demonstrated process improvement experience.
  • Knowledge of cGxPs and pharmaceutical/life science operations.
  • Experience leading/executing APQP projects.
  • Experience in the manufacture and/or use of glass primary packaging containers for pharmaceuticals (e.g. vials, syringes).
