About the position

The Supplier Quality Engineer (Electrical) at Kia Georgia, Inc. is a pivotal role responsible for ensuring the quality of parts supplied by external vendors. This position involves a comprehensive review of both internal and external quality indicators, which is essential for maintaining high standards in the manufacturing process. The engineer will engage in collaborative partnerships with suppliers and internal teams to oversee the quality assurance processes, including conducting Supplier Process Audits, reviewing Initial Sample Inspection Reports (ISIR), and performing Good Part Teardowns. In addition to quality assurance, the role requires active production support to resolve issues that arise during manufacturing. This includes addressing production-related concerns, managing retro-fits, overseeing yard campaigns, and conducting material checks as necessary. The Supplier Quality Engineer will monitor and investigate various quality indicators, both internal (such as First Time Through Quality (FTTQ), On-Line Repairs, and Customer Audits) and external (including Dealer Claims and JD Power IQS). The goal is to drive continuous improvement through effective root cause analysis and the implementation of both short-term and long-term corrective measures. The engineer will work within cross-functional teams, providing assistance as needed to ensure the overall success of the company. A strong focus on customer satisfaction and ongoing improvements in all business facets is essential. The role also involves preparing detailed plans, reports, and schedules for the Quality Department, as well as implementing and enforcing company policies and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and ensure the quality of supplied parts through collaborative partnerships with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Conduct Supplier Process Audits, Initial Sample Inspection (ISIR) reviews, and Good Part Teardowns.
  • Provide production support to resolve production-related issues, including retro-fits and material checks.
  • Monitor and investigate internal and external quality indicators to drive continuous improvement.
  • Work within cross-functional teams to assist in quality-related tasks.
  • Prepare detailed plans, reports, and schedules for the Quality Department.
  • Implement and enforce all quality policies and standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in supplier quality engineering within a manufacturing environment, preferably automotive.
  • Basic knowledge of internal combustion engines (ICE) and transmissions.
  • Ability to identify and root cause powertrain quality issues.
  • Strong self-responsibility, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Flexible schedule to work overtime, holidays, and weekends as required.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Analytical problem-solving and effective decision-making skills.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks with competing priorities within designated time frames.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion in job duties.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SAP system preferred.
  • Technical skills and knowledge of quality control systems in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP).
  • High level of knowledge in automotive part commodities.
