About the position

The Supplier Quality Engineer at Tesla, Inc. is responsible for driving improvements in supplier performance through the application of Lean methodologies and Statistical Process Control. This role involves developing strong relationships with suppliers and the Supply Chain Team to manage engineering changes, capacity studies, and new product introductions. The engineer will focus on systematic problem-solving and process improvement to enhance supplier compliance and deliver measurable results based on key performance metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Drive improvements utilizing Lean methodologies and Statistical Process Control.
  • Ensure supplier compliance and manage systematic problem-solving and process improvement plans.
  • Develop positive relationships with suppliers and the Supply Chain Team.
  • Manage, implement, and track supplier/engineering design changes and capacity studies.
  • Deliver results measured by key metrics such as supplier OEE, OTD, DPPM, SCAR, and VA/VE improvements.
  • Provide leadership during investigations of major problems and special projects.
  • Plan, organize, direct, and report all activities related to supplier performance.
  • Assess supplier qualifications, including training and certifications.
  • Maintain knowledge of current manufacturing and engineering trends affecting product quality.
  • Perform root cause analysis and coordinate specialized testing and measurement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
  • Two years of experience as a Quality Engineer or in a related position in design engineering, quality, manufacturing, or program management.
  • Experience in identifying and defining Critical to Quality requirements for manufacturing components.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, specifically CATIA V5, and reading 2D drawings.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, including ASME standard Y14.5.
  • Experience in process change management in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with 8D problem-solving methodology and quality tools such as Ishikawa diagram, 5Why, and Pareto Analysis.
  • Experience in hypothesis testing and statistical process control.
  • Ability to implement error-proof solutions in manufacturing assembly lines.
  • Experience in cross-functional team collaboration and management for problem-solving.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in design validation and product validation in the automotive industry.
  • Experience in supplier auditing and development.
