About the position

The Buyer role at Sonoco involves specialized purchasing and tactical sourcing services, focusing on low to medium dollar/complex spend requisitions. The position is responsible for facilitating the procurement process, ensuring order fulfillment, and maintaining quality and service standards to support customer relationships. The Buyer will execute a standardized procurement methodology, manage supplier agreements, and analyze sourcing requests to obtain the best value for money solutions.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate and manage a procurement process for general, low to moderate complex buys for Company end users.
• Support requisition development and purchase order placement for non-catalog requisitions.
• Execute a standardized Company procurement methodology, drawing upon wider category knowledge when required.
• Create and manage agreements using Company-specified terms and conditions, standards, and agreement templates.
• Obtain best value for money solutions through execution of a standardized sourcing methodology.
• Support Company Plant Purchasing Managers and Category Manager team.
• Maintain quality and service standards to support overall customer relationships and deliver continuous improvement.
• Develop and distribute tactical buy sourcing pipeline to ensure visibility of tactical sourcing opportunities.
• Analyze sourcing requests, establish pricing baseline, and understand end user requirements.
• Research supplier market to identify and understand potential suppliers, with awareness of industry trends and cost drivers.
• Estimate cost model for sourcing opportunities and develop initial proposals.
• Identify, rank, and weight supplier selection criteria, accounting for regulatory and legal issues.
• Conduct RFx and review bids using agreed standard Company framework or tender documents.
• Build negotiation plans and execute them effectively.
• Create necessary sourcing tools (including RFIs, RFPs, pricing grids) to obtain pricing information from suppliers.
• Issue, collect, and analyze supplier responses and prepare business cases to facilitate supplier selection.
• Finalize supplier selection and execute supplier agreements in accordance with business requirements.
• Build and support relationships with Commodity Managers, Plant Purchasing Managers, Finance, and select suppliers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with a major in business, supply chain, or engineering.
• 3+ years of experience in Purchasing processing.
• Global experience preferred.
• Experience in interfacing with business operational customers in defining Purchasing and Sourcing service requirements.
• Experience in Purchasing and Sourcing process improvements.
• Knowledge of Coupa or equivalent system procurement and supply chain modules.
• Experience in process improvement activities.
• Project management experience preferred.
• Proficient in using Microsoft Office suite.
• Fluent in English; Spanish, German, French or Portuguese is a preferred secondary language.
• Supervisory experience is considered a plus.
