About the position

The Supply Chain Engineer position at SpaceX focuses on supporting the Falcon 9 supply chain program, requiring a blend of leadership and technical skills. The role involves managing the supply chain for metallurgical components and assemblies used in rockets and engines, emphasizing new product development and production stabilization. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of materials and manufacturing processes, with a commitment to overcoming challenges in the pursuit of SpaceX's mission to enable human life on Mars.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the supply chain technical point of contact for assigned metallic raw materials, semi-finished products, and/or finished products used on vehicles and engines.
  • Solve emergent challenges at suppliers, mitigating risk to the manifest by addressing high-impact manufacturing and quality challenges.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to tackle quality and programmatic risks that arise.
  • Become thoroughly familiar with assigned parts and processes, serving as the primary point of contact for supply chain related defects.
  • Review and disposition issues on assigned parts, solving to the root cause and implementing changes at the supplier or SpaceX as appropriate.
  • Own the New Product Introduction (NPI) and qualification processes at suppliers for new parts and process changes.
  • Drive technical product improvements to reduce risks to quality and delivery.
  • Function as a liaison between purchasing, engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to resolve quality issues and drive continuous improvements.
  • Collaborate with sourcing and procurement to find and vet exceptional suppliers for quality and ability to meet aggressive takt times.
  • Review, assess, and optimize supplier manufacturing processes, methods, technologies, controls, and quality systems.
  • Demonstrate innovation, technical excellence, attention to detail, self-direction, and courage.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline (e.g. mechanical, chemical, materials, metallurgical, etc.)
  • 1+ years of experience in a manufacturing or process engineering role.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with machining methods and processes
  • Broad familiarity with metallic mill products in various alloys and product forms
  • Familiarity with ancillary processes associated with the production of metallic parts, e.g., NDE, heat treatment
  • Technical capabilities including knowledge of 2D blueprints and model drawings
  • Knowledge of supplier quality processes such as Production Part Approval Process and Advanced Product Quality Planning
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques and methods like design of experiments and Six Sigma
  • Experience with Quality Systems (ISO 9000/TS/AS9100/NADCAP)
  • Disciplined approach to problem solving - 8D
  • Proficient in MS Office applications and report writing
  • Knowledge of lean concepts
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to liaise cross-functionally and make presentations.
