About the position

The Supply Chain Engineer for Instrumentation at SpaceX plays a critical role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality parts for the production of revolutionary spacecraft and launch vehicles. This position involves solving technical and operational challenges, enabling suppliers to succeed, and collaborating closely with various engineering and production teams to meet company objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical point of contact for suppliers, building strong relationships and implementing improvement initiatives across tooling and manufacturing processes.
  • Develop strong working relationships with SpaceX engineering, integration, and production teams to meet company objectives.
  • Contribute to design reviews, focusing on design for manufacturability and supplier capabilities assessments.
  • Collaborate with the sourcing team to strategically source parts matched with supplier competencies.
  • Analyze supplier manufacturing and delivery metrics to identify trends and systemic performance gaps.
  • Review and assess supplier manufacturing processes to provide feedback on methods and technologies.
  • Recommend technical product improvements to reduce risk and potential defects.
  • Function as a liaison between purchasing, engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to resolve issues and provide technical support.
  • Be the primary contact for avionics engineering on non-conforming products, performing failure investigations and implementing corrective actions.
  • Manage supplier improvement plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • 2+ years of experience in supply chain, manufacturing, or engineering.
  • Experience in sensor fabrication, sensing technologies, or optical systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in engineering or business.
  • Experience defining acceptance criteria and manufacturing requirements for high precision sensors.
  • Familiarity with J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 standards.
  • Experience in medium to high volume, high-complexity products.
  • Knowledge of supplier manufacturing processes and statistical methods.
