About the position

The Supply Chain Engineer Manager at Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation is a pivotal role within the Supply Chain Organization, responsible for leading a team of experienced engineers across various disciplines. This position emphasizes the importance of manufacturing engineering and planning, with a strong preference for candidates who have experience working with suppliers. The selected individual will manage a team of up to 14 engineers and will be instrumental in addressing supplier issues in collaboration with Operations Engineering, other engineering disciplines, and the quality assurance organization. A significant focus for the year will be on enhancing vendor-based tooling management, which is critical for optimizing the supply chain and ensuring the highest standards of quality and efficiency. In this role, the manager will be tasked with planning and developing the Supply Chain Engineering function, which includes leading supply chain optimization efforts and implementing lean manufacturing philosophies to support zero defect objectives. The manager will provide technical and management direction to subordinates, ensuring they receive adequate training to maintain consistent quality and efficiency. Mentoring and leadership development will be key components of this role, as the manager will be responsible for creating future leaders within the team. The position also involves overseeing the development of process flows, tooling and equipment, material handling, and improvements in cost and quality. The manager will coordinate with both internal and external organizations to ensure that supply chain improvements are effectively implemented. Additionally, the role requires the analysis of work performance to manage individual contributions and to prioritize workloads based on project schedules and needs. Budget management is another critical aspect, as the manager will develop and monitor budget requirements, controlling expenditures to meet approved budgets. Overall, this position is focused on achieving corporate goals related to safety, quality, cost, and schedule objectives while overseeing multiple projects and program management changes.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and develop the Supply Chain Engineering function, leading supply chain optimization and lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Provide technical and management direction to subordinates, ensuring consistent quality and efficiency.
  • Create future leaders through mentoring, coaching, and leadership development.
  • Develop, plan, and implement process flow, tooling/equipment, material handling, and cost and quality improvements.
  • Coordinate with internal and external organizations to ensure supply chain improvements.
  • Oversee daily work planning for manufacturing areas to generate department metrics.
  • Analyze work performance to manage individual performance in terms of area support.
  • Provide guidance on career growth for employees.
  • Develop and monitor budget requirements and control expenditures.
  • Monitor progress on activities accomplished by personnel and prioritize workloads based on schedule and need.
  • Ensure compliance with GAC and QIP policies and recommend improvements to quality.
  • Provide direction for capital investments to reduce costs and improve quality.
  • Support concurrent engineering initiatives for new product development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or a closely related field required.
  • 8 years of experience in aviation maintenance, aerospace manufacturing, manufacturing engineering, or related disciplines.
  • 2 years of supervisory, team lead, or project management experience required.
  • Experience credit for advanced degrees: 2 years for a Master's Degree and 4 years for a PhD in applicable fields.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with suppliers is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing and industrial engineering, including tooling design and quality assurance.
