About the position

The Construction Procurement team at Tesla is looking for a skilled Supply Chain Manager to join their ranks. This role is pivotal in managing the procurement of Electrical and Mechanical Equipment, ensuring that the sourcing process is efficient and effective. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in contract negotiations and a deep understanding of the supply chain dynamics within the infrastructure and construction sectors. The position requires a proactive individual who can thrive in a fast-paced and ever-evolving work environment, adapting to changes and challenges as they arise. In this role, the Supply Chain Manager will be responsible for developing a robust stakeholder buy-in and collaborating closely with the Engineering team to implement a comprehensive Procurement strategy for MEP Long Lead Equipment. This will involve conducting thorough pre-qualification processes and synthesizing supplier, industry, and market research to inform sourcing strategies. The manager will analyze spend data for commodities to ensure that commodity spend is managed efficiently and effectively, maintaining compliance with contracts while supporting business planning and savings initiatives. The role also entails maintaining day-to-day supplier relationships, acting as the primary point of contact for all commercial issues, and identifying opportunities for cost reduction. The Supply Chain Manager will issue RFx (RFQ, RFB, and RFP) for sourcing, review and analyze quote packages from suppliers, and make recommendations for awards. Additionally, the manager will work on Lean initiatives to identify sourcing efficiencies through benchmarking and competitive quotes, ensuring that Tesla remains at the forefront of procurement excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Develop stakeholder buy-in and collaborate with the Engineering team to implement Procurement strategy for MEP Long Lead Equipment.
  • Conduct a thorough pre-qualification process and synthesize supplier, industry, and market research for long lead equipment.
  • Gather and analyze spend data for commodities to develop a sourcing strategy.
  • Ensure commodity spend is managed efficiently and effectively within contract compliance by supporting commodity business planning and savings.
  • Establish measurement metrics and tools to monitor progress, such as tracking labor productivity burn rates.
  • Implement Worldwide/Regional/Country agreements to consolidate suppliers/spend and provide analysis of existing requirements and pricing.
  • Analyze historical spend and forecast spend and savings by commodity/business to understand cost drivers and contracts.
  • Maintain day-to-day supplier relationships and act as the lead point of contact for all commercial issues.
  • Identify and negotiate commercial cost reduction opportunities.
  • Issue RFx (RFQ, RFB, and RFP) for sourcing and review, analyze, and clarify quote packages from suppliers and service providers.
  • Make and present recommendations to award based on analysis of quotes.
  • Work on Lean initiatives and identify other sourcing efficiencies via benchmarking, VA/VE, competitive quotes, and resourcing.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years' experience in purchasing, preferably in the Infrastructure, Construction or Facilities sectors.
  • Degree in Engineering, Construction, Supply Chain or equivalent experience.
  • Open-minded self-starter with the ability to adapt, improvise and problem solve.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify business process issues and drive process improvement.
  • Ability to work independently on multiple tasks and projects with various stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage and track transactional details.

Nice-to-haves
