About the position

The Tesla Raw Materials team is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Supply Chain Manager (SCM) to oversee the carbon steel commodity. This role is crucial as it involves developing and executing strategic plans for sourcing and managing relationships with Tier 2 and Tier 3 suppliers. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the sourcing, negotiating, and execution processes, ensuring that all sourcing requirements are met efficiently and effectively. The SCM will collaborate closely with various teams, including Tier 1 SCMs, Engineering, Finance, Legal, Planners, and Technical Program Managers, to ensure timely contract setups and to pursue cost-saving opportunities aggressively. Additionally, the SCM will communicate any risks to the supply chain and work to mitigate them proactively. In this role, the SCM will manage the carbon steel commodity across North America for both sustaining and new programs. Responsibilities will include addressing all aspects of category management, such as developing category business plans, analyzing market conditions, creating technology roadmaps, and formulating sourcing strategies. The SCM will monitor global industry trends and partner with Design teams to identify and mitigate supply and demand challenges. As the owner of commodity RFQs, the SCM will ensure that all commercial terms are agreed upon and documented, and will negotiate Non-Disclosure Agreements, General Terms & Conditions, and other related contracts before initiating business. The SCM will also manage supplier relationships and performance, which includes dispute resolution, maintaining supplier scorecards, and conducting periodic business reviews. Effective communication of key supply, cost, and quality issues with management teams is essential, as is the development of corrective action plans to address identified risks.
