About the position

The Supply Chain Operations Specialist I plays a crucial role in the management and execution of supply chain operations within the healthcare setting. This position is responsible for leading various supply chain management special projects as determined by the Supply Chain Management team. These projects may include tasks such as par cart redesign, product conversions, and velocity mapping, all aimed at optimizing supply chain efficiency and effectiveness. The specialist will oversee operations during their shift, ensuring that work assignments are completed and that workflow remains optimal. In the absence of a supervisor, the specialist will demonstrate leadership skills to direct staff and manage workflow effectively. Key responsibilities include ensuring that crash carts and specialty carts are replenished and processed before the end of the shift, as well as providing proper shift reports to incoming staff. The specialist will fill stock requisitions, manage inventory levels using handheld scanners, and ensure that external shipping containers are not left in par locations. They will also check for expiration dates while restocking and maintain accurate records of inventory. The role requires the unloading of incoming shipments, inspecting for damage, and ensuring accuracy in shipments. The specialist will operate various equipment such as pallet jacks and hospital vehicles, perform maintenance checks, and deliver stock items to designated areas. Additionally, the specialist will participate in daily report huddles, maintain a clean work environment, and assist in training new personnel. This position is integral to the smooth operation of supply chain processes within the hospital, ensuring that all supplies and equipment are managed efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Leads supply chain management special projects as determined by Supply Chain Management.
  • Oversees shift in the absence of supervisor, ensuring work assignments and par locations are completed.
  • Ensures crash carts and specialty carts are replenished before the end of the shift.
  • Provides proper shift report hand-off to incoming shift in the absence of a supervisor.
  • Fills stock requisitions and manages inventory using handheld scanners.
  • Checks for expiration dating while restocking assigned areas and main inventory.
  • Unloads incoming shipments and inspects for damage or defective merchandise.
  • Operates pallet jacks, flatbeds, hand trucks, and hospital vehicles for transporting supplies and equipment.
  • Records and reports out-of-stock items to the Supervisor.
  • Participates in report huddles at the beginning and end of every shift.
  • Assists various departments with the movement of supplies and equipment as requested.

Requirements

  • Education: Completion of four years of high school or equivalent.
  • Certification: Current Illinois driver's license required.
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year experience as a Supply Chain Associate with NCH or similar experience in supply chain management distribution and logistics required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of body mechanics for lifting and ability to lift heavy objects/packages.
  • Ability to read and comprehend shipping documents and instructions accurately.
  • Familiarity with general computer operations and ability to operate a computer and handheld scanning device.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous lead/supervisory experience preferred.
  • Customer service skills to interact appropriately with guests and hospital staff.
  • Mechanical ability to assemble shelving, carts, and operate departmental equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology, supplies, and equipment.
