About the position

This position is located at the Naval Hospital Twentynine Palms, under the Directorate of Resource Management. The hospital is situated in a region known for its beautiful natural surroundings, including the nearby Joshua Tree National Park, and serves as a vital facility for the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, the largest Marine Corps training base in the world. The role of Supply Clerk (Office Automation) involves a variety of clerical and administrative tasks that are essential for the efficient operation of the hospital's supply chain management. The incumbent will be responsible for managing incoming New Item Requests (NIRs) through the Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support (DMLSS) system, ensuring that all requests are accurately processed and recorded. This position requires a proactive approach to purchasing supplies and equipment, utilizing simplified purchase procedures and the Government Commercial Purchase Card (GCPC) system. Additionally, the Supply Clerk will handle daily mail operations, including sorting and distributing mail to various departments, and maintaining personnel record books to keep track of training requirements for new personnel. The role is critical in supporting the hospital's mission by ensuring that all necessary supplies are available and that the supply chain operates smoothly. The Supply Clerk will work closely with other supply representatives and departments to facilitate communication and ensure that all supply needs are met in a timely manner. This position is a full-time, permanent role with no promotion potential, and it is classified under the GS-4 pay scale. The work schedule is competitive, and while telework is eligible as determined by agency policy, the position does not require travel or relocation expenses reimbursement. The successful candidate will be expected to adhere to mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and maintain a Government Commercial Purchase Card as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Print, review, and enter all incoming New Item Requests (NIRs) into the Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support (DMLSS) system.
  • Manage purchases of supplies and equipment using simplified purchase procedures and the Government Commercial Purchase Card (GCPC) system.
  • Pick up mail from the hospital mailroom each workday and distribute it to various departments and supply representatives.
  • Maintain personnel record books, establishing records for new personnel and keeping them informed of current training requirements.

Requirements

  • One year of general experience in clerical, office, or other work that demonstrates the ability to acquire the knowledge and skills needed for the position.
  • Two years of education above the high school level in an accredited business, secretarial, or technical school, junior college, college, or university, or a combination of education and experience that totals at least 100%.
  • Proficiency in typing at least 40 words per minute with three or fewer errors.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support (DMLSS) system.
  • Familiarity with Government Purchase Card procedures.
