About the position

The Supply Technician (Medical) position at the Department of Veterans Affairs Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS) is responsible for managing the supply distribution within the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of Logistics Service. This role involves providing essential medical supplies and materials to various hospital facilities, ensuring that clinical and administrative areas are adequately stocked with sterile and non-sterile items, instrument sets, and equipment. The technician will also monitor inventory levels, manage expiration dates, and maintain records to support efficient operations within the healthcare system.

Responsibilities

  • Pull stock inventory and materials for delivery.
  • Replenish stock inventory and maintain records on stock levels.
  • Interact with clinical and administrative customers to address supply needs.
  • Communicate concerns related to supplies, equipment, and procedures to the Lead or Supervisor.
  • Provide information to customers regarding medical supplies.
  • Monitor expiration dates and remove items from use as required.
  • Perform daily inventory using bar coding equipment.
  • Resolve discrepancies between records and physical stock counts.
  • Distribute items according to established requirements in computerized inventory management systems.
  • Deliver supplies in a timely manner, ensuring they are sterile and operational.
  • Complete specialty cart preparation and clean assigned areas according to aseptic principles.
  • Receive supplies and materials into the medical center's catchment area.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation.
  • Experience in providing supplies and materials to clinical and/or administrative areas.
  • Experience in scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing, and distributing supplies and instruments.
  • Experience in monitoring expiration dates and cleaning assigned areas according to regulations.
  • Ability to utilize an automated system to maintain inventory.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of medical supply inventory management systems.
