About the position

The Support Service Data Entry Clerk position at Alverno Laboratories is a critical role within our Central Laboratory located at 2434 Interstate Plaza Drive, Hammond, IN. This position operates on a full-time, PRN basis, with shifts scheduled from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM, including rotating shifts and weekend or holiday rotations as needed. Alverno Laboratories is recognized as one of the largest integrated laboratory networks in the Midwest, serving a wide array of hospitals and physician offices. In this role, the individual will be responsible for assisting in meeting the technical departments' turnaround time (TAT) and quality requirements. This includes resolving and troubleshooting pending specimens, completing add-on testing, and addressing any specimen rejections. The Support Service Data Entry Clerk will play a vital part in maintaining a healing environment for both employees and patients, embodying the spirit of caring and concern that is central to our Catholic healthcare philosophy. The successful candidate will be expected to perform all job functions with a high degree of professionalism and attention to detail, ensuring that our laboratory services meet the highest standards of quality and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in meeting the technical departments' turnaround time (TAT) and quality requirements.
  • Resolve and troubleshoot pending specimens.
  • Complete add-on testing as required.
  • Address and resolve any specimen rejections.
  • Maintain a healing environment for employees and patients.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Typing skills of at least 40 words per minute (wpm).
  • Experience with 10 key data entry required.
  • Computer experience is necessary.
  • Background in medical laboratory and/or knowledge of medical terminology, and/or billing and coding is strongly preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a medical laboratory setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with billing and coding processes.
