About the position

The Support Staff-Planning Specialist II position at the School District of Osceola County is primarily responsible for coordinating site management and real estate activities related to land acquisition and disposal, leases, site development, and joint-use development agreements. This role plays a crucial part in assisting with both short- and long-range planning and growth management programs. The specialist will be involved in collecting and analyzing information pertinent to short- and long-term school construction planning and school site selection. Additionally, the position requires making recommendations to district leadership regarding real estate services, ensuring that the district's needs align with available resources and future growth projections. In this role, the Planning Specialist II will serve as a liaison between various district departments and governmental agencies, facilitating communication and collaboration on school planning initiatives. This includes navigating complex land development issues, understanding zoning regulations, and ensuring compliance with local and state laws. The specialist will also be expected to engage with community stakeholders to gather input and support for planning initiatives, thereby fostering a collaborative environment for school development and expansion. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to analyze data effectively to inform decision-making processes. Responsibilities

  • Coordinate site management and real estate activities related to land acquisition and disposal.
  • Assist in short- and long-range planning and growth management programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Public Administration, Urban and Regional Planning, Planning, Economics, Geography, Engineering, Real Estate, or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of work-related experience or experience in school administration, including knowledge of site planning, annexation, land use, zoning, residential development, and Capital Outlay Plans.
  • Experience in coordinating activities between governmental agencies and land development issues, including surveying and environmental programs, is preferred.
  • Must have a valid Florida Driver's License.

Nice-to-haves

  • American Institute of Certified Planners (A.I.C.P.) certification preferred.
