About the position

The Supported Employment Specialist plays a crucial role in assessing and supporting individuals with severe and persistent mental illnesses in their pursuit of employment. This position involves evaluating clients' capabilities, providing training and ongoing support, and facilitating job placements while educating employers about the benefits of hiring individuals with mental health challenges. The specialist follows the supported employment fidelity model and primarily operates in community-based or home-based settings.

Responsibilities

  • Assess newly diagnosed and/or severe and persistent mentally ill clients for employment capabilities.
  • Provide training assistance and ongoing support to clients in their job search.
  • Educate employers and community providers about LifeWorks NW's Employment Services.
  • Develop employment-focused service plans based on clients' strengths and needs.
  • Research job openings and opportunities for clients.
  • Perform job analysis to match potential openings with clients' skills.
  • Establish and maintain connections with businesses offering employment opportunities.
  • Monitor and track clients' employment status and provide timely reports to the Vocational Rehabilitation Division.
  • Assist clients with job applications, resume preparation, and interview skills.
  • Identify and address barriers to client employment and develop strategies to overcome them.
  • Maintain close contact with clients during job training and placements to resolve issues.
  • Provide job coaching as needed based on clients' requirements.
  • Coordinate with team members to keep them informed of client progress.
  • Counsel individuals and groups regarding vocational rehabilitation issues.
  • Refer clients to community resources and provide crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Transport clients as required using a personal or LifeWorks NW vehicle.
  • Utilize Feedback-Informed Treatment to gather client feedback on services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related mental health field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience working with a similar population.
  • Credentialed through the Mental Health & Addiction Certification Board of Oregon (MHACBO).
  • At least one additional year of experience in the behavioral health field working with people with disabilities.
  • Access to a car and a valid driver's license with proof of current automobile insurance coverage.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word; ability to master proprietary software including electronic health record systems.
  • Ability to pass a DHS background check.
  • Effective communication skills and understanding of mental health assessment and treatment terminology.
  • Ability to provide culturally competent treatment services to diverse populations.
  • Compliance with confidentiality requirements according to federal, state, and funding source regulations.
