About the position

The SUPV CHEMISTRY SPECIAL CHEMISTRY position at JPS Health Network involves overseeing the operational activities of the Core Laboratory, ensuring staff adherence to processes and procedures, and maintaining specimen integrity. The role requires a technical expert to facilitate the day-to-day operations of the Chemistry and Special Chemistry sections, while also mentoring staff and ensuring compliance with quality control and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise operational activities of the Core Laboratory.
  • Train and monitor staff on laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, and analyzing.
  • Ensure adherence to departmental policies and procedures, including quality control and safety.
  • Serve as the technical expert within the assigned laboratory discipline.
  • Perform high complexity clinical tests as needed.
  • Facilitate day-to-day operations of the Chemistry and Special Chemistry sections.
  • Perform Laboratory and Hospital Information Systems (LIS and HIS) computer functions.
  • Ensure patient testing processes are performed according to established criteria.
  • Build and maintain customer relationships through effective communication.
  • Report problems and abnormal findings to management for resolution.
  • Mentor and support laboratory staff in their responsibilities.
  • Draft, review, and edit Chemistry Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Resolve technical, mechanical, and quality control problems as they arise.
  • Ensure necessary instrumentation and supplies are maintained appropriately.
  • Participate in scheduling, PTO approval, and daily Kronos review.
  • Ensure employee participation in proficiency surveys and quality assurance activities.
  • Ensure technical staff are responsive to client requests and concerns.
  • Maintain compliance with established regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited college or university.
  • 4 plus years of clinical laboratory training or experience in high complexity testing.
  • MT, MLS or CLS registered through American Society Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT).

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in a Science related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Chem supv--Specialist in Chemistry (SC) with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
  • 2 plus years work experience in a management or supervisory type role.
  • Training in advanced laboratory analyzer operation and maintenance.
