About the position

As a Supervisory Human Resources Specialist within the Department of Defense, you will play a critical role in managing and overseeing various human resources functions. Your primary responsibilities will include preparing Performance Plans and Individual Development Plans (IDPs) to ensure that the developmental and training needs of employees are met. You will also be responsible for taking disciplinary actions, which may include counseling, issuing warnings, and recommending punishments when necessary. This position requires you to assign work to subordinates based on priorities, the difficulty of assignments, and the capabilities of employees, ensuring that tasks are allocated effectively to meet organizational goals. In addition to these responsibilities, you will conduct extensive analysis and research of past and present guidelines, regulations, and policies to ensure compliance and to inform decision-making processes. You will apply analytical techniques to solve problems related to record sources, reconstructions, and information management, responding to customer inquiries and providing solutions to complex issues. This role demands a high level of expertise in human resources management, as well as the ability to navigate the intricacies of federal employment regulations and policies. Your work will directly impact the efficiency and effectiveness of the human resources department, contributing to the overall mission of the Department of Defense. You will be expected to maintain a high standard of ethical conduct and to uphold the principles of government ethics as outlined in federal regulations. This position is based in Quantico, VA, and requires a commitment to on-site work, ensuring that you are available to support your team and the organization effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare Performance Plans and Individual Development Plans (IDPs) to meet developmental and training needs.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy must pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Current federal employees must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level to apply for GS jobs.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
  • Supervisors must review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in managing administrative and personnel services, updating and modifying records, and interpreting policy and regulations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's or equivalent graduate degree in a related field.
  • 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
  • LL.B. or J.D. if related.
