About the position

The Surety Underwriter position at IAT Insurance Group involves handling routine underwriting responsibilities while collaborating with various stakeholders. This role is essential for maintaining agency relationships and ensuring the accuracy of underwriting processes. Responsibilities

  • Conduct financial and account analysis of pertinent financial data for new, existing, and renewal business.
  • Request and gather financial information on assigned accounts.
  • Prepare bond renewals and determine whether bonds should be cancelled.
  • Market independently to agents and broker partners with an emphasis on production.
  • Maintain agency relationships and provide exceptional service and support.
  • Underwrite low-value bonds and renewals as authorized.
  • Provide general direction to Bond Underwriting Assistants for bond processing.
  • Make quality recommendations to Branch and Home Office reports on assigned accounts and agents.
  • Rate and review bonds for premium and classification accuracy.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of files and verify that all necessary documentation is complete.
  • Act as the primary service contact and visit agents assigned by the Regional Manager to foster relationships.
  • Communicate knowledge of assigned accounts to Branch and Home Office personnel effectively.
  • Prioritize workflow to ensure timely completion of work and meeting deadlines.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, Business, or related field.
  • At least 2 years of surety underwriting experience or equivalent 6 years of relevant underwriting experience.
  • Strong marketing skills and ability to obtain new business and work with contractor clients.
  • Strong competency in quantitative and financial analysis.
  • Strong math aptitude and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal and negotiating skills.
  • Customer service oriented with integrity.
  • Self-starter with the ability to operate independently.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without requiring VISA sponsorship.
