About the position

The Administrative Officer role within the Surge and Rapid Response Team (SRRT) at HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is designed for individuals who are enthusiastic, adaptable, and possess strong customer service skills. This position involves providing frontline operational support across various government departments during peak demand periods and unexpected crises. The role requires flexibility in deployment, including potential travel across the UK and abroad, and offers a Level 3 Apprenticeship to develop skills and gain a recognized qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Handle inbound and outbound phone calls with customers.
  • Perform case work and data processing using various IT systems.
  • Engage face-to-face with the public, such as at passport control.
  • Respond quickly to priority work requiring training or travel at short notice.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills and work with minimal supervision in a dynamic environment.

Requirements

  • Flexibility to change deployment at short notice, including working away from home.
  • Ability to travel nationally or abroad, sometimes at short notice.
  • GCSE Grade 4 (formerly C) or equivalent in English and Maths, or completion of Functional Skills Level 2 qualification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous customer service experience (not required but beneficial).
