About the position

The Surgery Benefits Coordinator is responsible for managing insurance benefits for upcoming surgeries and injections, ensuring that patients are informed about their financial responsibilities. This role involves verifying insurance eligibility, collecting deposits, and maintaining communication with patients and medical staff to facilitate smooth operations within the revenue cycle.

Responsibilities

  • Work up insurance benefits for all upcoming surgeries and some injections for all providers.
  • Send required deposits to patients and follow up to verify payment before services are received.
  • Comfortably call patients to request payments for upcoming services.
  • Update insurance information by contacting patients when necessary.
  • Correspond with surgery scheduler regarding unpaid deposits.
  • Verify eligibility and benefits with each insurance provider and determine any required deposits.
  • Utilize eCW, Surgimate, and Rivet systems to document and complete tasks.
  • Gather information from faxes as needed.
  • Collaborate with other departments to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Attend meetings as required and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years of experience with insurance benefits.
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent documentation abilities.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work professionally with patients.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance plans.
  • Strong computer skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record systems.
