About the position
The Surgery Scheduler at Mercy Medical Center is responsible for coordinating and scheduling surgical cases for patients across various age groups. This role involves ensuring that all necessary services, equipment, and supplies are acquired for surgeries, as well as maintaining accurate records and statistics related to surgical procedures. The position requires strong organizational and communication skills to facilitate efficient patient care and collaboration with various departments and vendors.
Responsibilities
- Book surgical cases for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and older adult patients for the OR and G.I. Lab.
- Coordinate and confirm the acquisition of services, equipment, instrumentation, and supplies from outside vendors for scheduled surgeries.
- Prepare and distribute the surgical schedule and on-call list to appropriate departments or personnel.
- Check, enter, and reconcile daily patient charges.
- Prepare and distribute monthly surgical statistics.
- Update the Surgery Schedules and complete the required Log Book.
- Answer phones and appropriately communicate messages.
- Assist the OR Director and Charge Nurse with additional clerical duties.
- Work with coworkers, other departments, and outside companies to assist with the provision of safe, efficient, and quality patient care.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a Medical Care Setting.
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology.
- Strong clerical and computer skills.
- Command of the English language.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Current BLS (AHA) certification upon hire and maintain current.
Nice-to-haves
- Previous experience in the OR preferred.
