About the position

The Surgery Scheduler position at Banner Churchill Community Hospital is responsible for scheduling surgical, cardiovascular, or obstetrical procedures using a computerized scheduling system. This role involves entering patient charges, orders, and other pertinent information into the system, as well as compiling and reporting statistical information to management. The position requires strong technical and multitasking skills, effective communication, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates case times for elective, urgent, or emergent surgeries, cardiovascular, or obstetrical procedures in a computerized scheduling system.
  • Verifies and reviews physician privilege status prior to scheduling and maintains confidentiality of all information.
  • Acquires authorization numbers, History and Physicals, and laboratory test results, ensuring they are current.
  • Types and prints physician orders for multiple physicians and departments, and schedules physician block time.
  • Enters physician's orders for lab, blood bank, medical imaging, and cardiology, and compiles data for statistical reports.
  • Conducts charge management audits and reconciles charge packet information with the audit.
  • Acts as a receptionist, answering phones, greeting patients, and directing inquiries appropriately.
  • Enters facility work orders and supply orders, and arranges for the pickup and delivery of instruments and equipment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • 2 years of medical clerical experience, preferably in a hospital central scheduling or physician office scheduling setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and payor contract terms and processes.
  • Excellent organizational skills and effective human relations and communication skills.
  • Effective teamwork skills and the ability to meet deadlines and productivity standards.
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software, and ability to use computerized scheduling systems.
  • Ability to maintain accurate statistical records, gather data, and produce reports.
