About the position
The Surgery Sterile Processing Tech is responsible for maintaining, processing, and keeping records of surgical instruments and equipment in accordance with industry standards. This role ensures that all instruments are available for surgical procedures and that they are properly cleaned, decontaminated, and sterilized. The position requires effective communication and attention to detail, as well as the ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
Responsibilities
- Maintain working knowledge of department's instrumentation and equipment.
- Review surgery schedule and ensure all instruments are available according to surgeon's preference cards.
- Act as liaison with Purchasing Department and vendors.
- Ensure damaged or inappropriate equipment is sent for timely repair or replacement.
- Respond quickly to provide items needed during emergency situations.
- Demonstrate ability to use processing equipment to clean and decontaminate surgical instrumentation.
- Ensure compliance with current standards on decontamination and sterilization techniques.
- Maintain and store sterilized instrumentation appropriately in a systematic manner.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date instrumentation lists and sterilization records.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Knowledge of aseptic technique preferred.
- Knowledge of patient care equipment preferred.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend the English language.
- Effective communication skills with attention to detail.
