About the position
The Surgical First Assistant (SFA) will be responsible for the direct and indirect care of patients based on established standards. The SFA will collaborate with the surgeon in performing an operative procedure in a safe manner with optimal outcomes for the patient whose protective reflexes or self-care abilities are potentially compromised. The SFA provides assistance to other health care providers such as Registered Nurses, anesthesia staff, surgeons and other professionals. Additionally, the Surgical First Assistant provides orient/training to new team members, participates in very complex cases, and actively participates in PI projects. SFA works under the license and direct supervision of the surgeon. The SFA will be responsible for knowledge and implementation of the mission, vision and values of Premier Health Partners. The SFA will be responsible for maintaining continuing education.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the surgeon in performing operative procedures.
- Provide direct and indirect care to patients.
- Assist other health care providers such as Registered Nurses and anesthesia staff.
- Orient and train new team members.
- Participate in complex surgical cases.
- Engage in performance improvement projects.
- Maintain knowledge of the mission, vision, and values of Premier Health Partners.
- Ensure continuing education is up to date.
Requirements
- Diploma Program - Surgical First Assistant program must be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA).
- No prior job-related work experience required.
Nice-to-haves
- Associates Degree in the field of Surgical Technology.
- Military Training.
- 5 or more years of experience without a degree.
