About the position
The Surgical Booking Specialist at Southcoast Health plays a crucial role in managing complex surgical scheduling and non-surgical procedures within a multi-specialty procedural/surgical practice. This position involves maintaining surgical calendars, coordinating with hospital staff, and ensuring that all procedures are authorized by third-party payers. The specialist will also provide financial options for patients and perform various clerical and patient care duties to support the practice.
Responsibilities
- Perform complex surgical scheduling and manage non-surgical procedures ordered by providers.
- Maintain surgical calendar and templates for all providers.
- Keep surgeons' calendars updated in Outlook and make necessary adjustments.
- Coordinate with hospital OR/procedural staff to ensure continuity and avoid scheduling conflicts.
- Work closely with third-party payers to ensure approval for all surgical procedures and outpatient testing.
- Review and submit authorization requests for all CPT/ICD9 codes to be billed.
- Provide financial options for patients without insurance coverage, including options for cosmetic procedures.
- Perform a variety of office, patient care, clerical, and related duties in support of the assigned practice.
Requirements
- Associates Degree in a related field or equivalent education and experience required.
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology required.
- Over three years up to and including five years of experience in a medical office required.
- Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal Influenza and the COVID-19 virus or have an exemption.
