About the position

The Surgical Operations Specialist in Neurointerventional Surgery is responsible for facilitating the patient operational experience, focusing on patient education, process oversight, and surgical scheduling. This role requires collaboration with department leadership to develop effective workflows and ensure optimal patient care throughout the surgical process.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates patient education and operational experience.
  • Oversees surgical scheduling and process implementation.
  • Maintains active operating room (OR) schedule for all faculty.
  • Coordinates surgical care and pretesting with patients and families.
  • Educates patients on pre- and post-surgical processes.
  • Completes necessary documentation and ensures it is scanned into EPIC.
  • Participates in daily huddle calls and serves as a liaison between the department and OR.
  • Schedules surgical cases daily following clinical and time allocation guidelines.
  • Researches and implements office-wide surgical scheduling workflows.
  • Trains clinical staff and faculty on new workflows.
  • Monitors and analyzes processes for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Collects and analyzes surgical data for review and improvement.
  • Communicates patient demographic and clinical data to Patient Registration.
  • Generates and delivers daily surgical schedules to designated locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a medical office setting.
  • Previous surgical scheduling experience preferred.
  • Experience with EPIC and general computer knowledge.
  • Current knowledge of payer requirements for referrals and preauthorization.
  • Knowledge of IDX or similar computerized billing system.
  • Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT coding.
  • General understanding of back office operations.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • PC proficiency and familiarity with medical terminology preferred.

  • Experience with surgical case type equipment and requirements.
  • Familiarity with patient demographic and clinical data management.
