About the position

The Surgical Scheduler at Reynolds Memorial Hospital is responsible for managing surgical scheduling and coordinating pre-admission testing within the department. This role involves performing various administrative and clerical duties to ensure efficient scheduling of surgeries and effective communication with patients and clinical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and monitor detailed calendars for each surgeon to proficiently schedule all cases in a timely manner.
  • Continuously monitor and review the length of specific procedures with specific surgeons to ensure optimal utilization of OR time.
  • Pull future cases/appointments to keep the procedure schedule full if procedures are canceled, requiring careful management of internal staff schedules and preferences.
  • Assist in scheduling urgent and emergent surgeries.
  • Coordinate and schedule testing needed prior to surgery as required by the department.
  • Keep up to date with the queue from tests ordered in EPIC by Physicians and gather ancillary testing forms when necessary.
  • Communicate information regarding impending surgeries to patients and their families, providing detailed instructions and appointment cards.
  • Call patients with appointment reminders and elicit responses regarding their intent to keep appointments.
  • Confirm patient procedures within the Suite for Clinical staff.
  • Maintain inventory of patient instructions and educational materials related to ancillary testing.
  • Coordinate patient care with various clinics, pre-admission testing, and staff within the Clinical Enterprise.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • State criminal background check, and federal, if applicable, as required for state department of health regulated areas.

Nice-to-haves

  • One (1) year medical office experience with scheduling responsibilities.
