About the position

The Surgical Scheduler plays a vital role in the healthcare system by coordinating surgical procedures and supporting clinical and clerical activities within the practice. This position requires a blend of administrative skills and direct patient care support, ensuring that all necessary materials are prepared for surgeries and that patient interactions are handled efficiently. The role is dynamic, adapting to the daily needs of the practice and contributing to the overall operations of the healthcare team.

Responsibilities

• Schedule and coordinate all surgical procedures, ensuring necessary materials are prepared.
• Manage pre-clearances and prior authorizations for surgeries.
• Assist with patient check-ins and check-outs, verifying/updating demographics.
• Scan insurance cards and collect co-pays or outstanding balances.
• Review and confirm all H&Ps and surgical documents for completeness and signatures.
• Handle additional scheduling for labs, x-rays, procedures, and testing, as well as insurance referrals and pre-authorizations.
• Answer and triage incoming calls, take messages, and confirm appointments.
• Check out patients, print CVS, perform daily cash-out, and prepare bank deposits.
• Update patient status in Medent, including appointment confirmations.
• Manage provider meeting schedules and ensure accurate placement of new and returning patients.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Strong customer service and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent time management and prioritization abilities.
• Proficient computer skills, including experience with Medent and Microsoft Office.
• Flexibility to assist other departments when needed.

Nice-to-haves

• Previous medical office experience preferred.
• College level training/education in a healthcare support field preferred.
• Previous EMR use/training helpful and preferred.
