About The Position

The Surgical Tech Labor and Delivery position at HCA Florida Mercy Hospital involves providing support in the operating room during labor and delivery procedures. The role requires knowledge of surgical instruments and sterile techniques, with a focus on patient-centered care. The technician will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and collaborate with the surgical team to ensure a safe and efficient surgical environment.

Requirements

• Graduation from a Surgical Technician Program preferred.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• High School Graduate / GED required.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred.
• Labor and Delivery experience preferred.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in patient monitoring.
• OR experience.

Responsibilities

• Assemble supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures.
• Prepare sterile instrument table.
• Prepare patient skin for surgery in accordance with hospital standards.
• Maintain aseptic techniques and monitor for breaches in aseptic technique.
• Provide comfort and support for pre-operative patients.
• Transport patients to and from the surgical suite.
• Position patients according to type of surgery.
• Assist the surgical team in procedures by passing instruments, sponges, and sutures.
• Maintain work area and gather equipment for cleaning and sterilization.
• Assist in monitoring the patient throughout the procedure.
• Provide age and culturally appropriate care.
• Orient and mentor new staff members.
• Follow Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
