About the position

The Surgical Technologist at Riddle Surgical Center is responsible for assisting in various surgical procedures under the supervision of the Operating Room Manager and Registered Nurse. This role requires a high level of competency in surgical practices, ensuring compliance with hospital standards and regulations while maintaining patient safety and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Fill the surgical scrub role on all types of minor and major surgical procedures.
• Assist physicians and nurses in various medical and technical procedures.
• Make decisions regarding equipment and instrumentation sterilization.
• Dispose of biohazardous waste and perform housekeeping duties.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and create a safe surgical environment.
• Use medical equipment safely and provide cost-effective patient care.
• Implement principles of medical and surgical asepsis according to national standards and hospital policies.
• Account for sponges, needles, instruments, and other potential foreign bodies during surgery.
• Support other hospital personnel in their duties and assist the surgeon in scrubbed cases.
• Pull supplies for upcoming surgical cases and check the operating room for cleanliness and equipment availability.
• Perform surgical hand scrubs and don sterile gowns and gloves according to policy.
• Maintain proper sterile technique when gowning and gloving the surgeon and draping the patient.
• Handle specimens according to established policies and transport instruments to the decontamination area.
• Restock operating rooms to established PAR levels and adhere to attendance and punctuality policies.
• Complete work in an acceptable time frame and demonstrate a positive attitude towards coworkers and management.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Certification as a Surgical Technologist required.
• Three years of previous experience as an operating room technician desired.
• Current BCLS certification required.
• Vaccination compliant.
