About the position
The Surgical Technician position at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center is a vital role within the Nursing Services, specifically in the Surgery Department's Operating Room. The incumbent will assist surgeons and other surgical team members during various surgical procedures, ensuring that all necessary instruments and equipment are prepared and available. This full-time position requires a high level of concentration and the ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team during operations.
Responsibilities
- Handle instruments, supplies, and equipment during all surgical procedures.
- Set up the sterile field with all required items for each procedure.
- Plan and discuss each procedure with surgical professionals to ensure all supplies and equipment are available.
- Prepare, organize, and maintain highly complex sterile surgical setups.
- Observe and respond promptly to each stage of the surgical procedure.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job.
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-06 level in the normal line of progression for the occupation.
- Proficient in written and spoken English.
- Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
Nice-to-haves
- Associate degree from an accredited Surgical Technician program.
- Experience functioning in complex surgical cases including general surgery, GYN, orthopedics, ENT, and robotics.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) certification.
