About the position

The Surgical Technologist - CVOR position at Lancaster General Hospital involves assisting surgeons during cardiac and vascular surgical procedures. The role requires preparation of surgical supplies, maintenance of sterile fields, and direct patient care across various age groups. The position is full-time, with a schedule of Monday to Friday and on-call responsibilities on weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons during cardiac and vascular procedures according to OR standards.
• Maintain sterile field and handle surgical equipment properly.
• Function as the first assistant to the surgeon, handling tissue and using instruments as directed.
• Anticipate and supply the surgeon's needs for instruments and supplies during procedures.
• Identify emergency situations and respond efficiently, recognizing surgical complications.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for complex hybrid cases.
• Report to off-site locations for emergent procedures requiring immediate intervention.
• Care for contaminated instruments and supplies during and after surgical procedures.
• Participate in the on-call system for emergency and urgent cases on weekends, nights, and holidays.
• Participate in the clinical instruction of students and staff on cardiac and vascular procedures.
• Assist circulating nurse in providing direct patient care.
• Maintain inventory supplies and eliminate expired items.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Graduate of an approved school of surgical technology or validation of completion of a surgical military training program (Army, Navy, or Air Force).
• CPR Certification.

Nice-to-haves

• One (1) year of Operating Room scrub experience.
