About the position

The Survey CAD Technician at Utility Design Services Inc. is responsible for preparing and producing various types of maps and drawings related to land surveying. This entry-level to experienced position involves working under the supervision of the Survey Manager to ensure accurate and detailed outputs from survey field data. The role requires proficiency in AutoCAD and a strong understanding of surveying principles, with a focus on meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare maps and drawings from survey field data, including Site Plans, Topographic Maps, Right-of-Way Maps, As-Builts, and Vicinity Maps.
  • Prepare TINs, surface models, and contours from field data.
  • Perform typical coordinate geometry calculations such as intersections, curves, inverses, and area calculations.
  • Make adjustments to field calculations as necessary.
  • Prepare pre-calculations/staking and stationing calculations for field crews.
  • Adhere to drafting standards and ensure all work is routinely backed up and archived.
  • Work independently and stay on task to meet deadlines.
  • Communicate effectively and be consistently available during working hours.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD drafting software; Civil 3D experience is a plus.
  • Experience preparing surface models and contours from field data.
  • Ability to understand survey field notes and data from plats and maps.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; Microsoft Access experience is a plus.
  • Ability to meet competing deadlines with strong time management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with post-process static GPS data usage; OPUS submission experience preferred.
  • Combination of education and experience in drafting, mapping, and surveying.
