About the position

The Sr. Survey Technician will play a crucial role in conducting land surveys and managing survey-related tasks under moderate supervision. This position involves a variety of responsibilities including survey computations, mapping, drafting surveys, and coordinating with team members to ensure project objectives are met. The technician will utilize CAD software to prepare detailed drawings and will be involved in research and data processing to support survey crews.

Responsibilities

  • Perform survey computations and mapping.
  • Generate DTM models and draft surveys.
  • Conduct research and create legal descriptions and plats.
  • Coordinate with project teams in surveying, engineering, and design.
  • Plan and organize land surveys under the supervision of a RPLS.
  • Prepare and revise plans, profiles, and detailed drawings using CAD software.
  • Research existing record information and maintain field data records.
  • Compile record data to create working drawings for survey crews.
  • Prepare metes and bounds descriptions, parcel maps, and boundary maps.
  • Assist RPLS and Survey Technician staff in project deliverables.
  • Perform complex surveying calculations and analyze raw data for accuracy.
  • Provide survey information for GIS and prepare various survey reports.
  • Participate in pre-survey planning meetings with project managers and clients.
  • Analyze sketches and notes to develop and complete drawings with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain an organized work area for team access to project information.

Requirements

  • 4 years of experience in Land Surveying and CAD design for surveying projects (non-oil/gas).
  • Proficient in AutoCAD/Civil 3D or MicroStation/GeoPak.
  • Strong ethics and professionalism.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changes in work assignments.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive team environment.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • 6 years of experience in CAD design for transportation and land development projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Land Surveying, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.
  • Previous experience in TxDOT or other DOT consulting engineering projects.
  • Experience with OpenRoads.
  • Familiarity with collaboration software (ProjectWise, Bluebeam).
