About the position

The Survey Crew Chief at Martin/Martin, Inc. is responsible for overseeing field operations related to boundary, location, topographic, construction, control, and specialized surveys. This role involves ensuring safety, training, quality, and efficiency of work performed by field personnel, while also maintaining equipment and vehicles. The Survey Crew Chief represents the company in the field and is expected to use independent judgment to meet the goals set by the Survey Manager or direct supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Takes charge in the field of boundary, location, topo, construction, control, and specialized surveys.
• Returns comprehensive field notes, photographs, and written history of field survey to the office.
• Reviews final drawings produced by survey technicians to ensure completeness and accuracy.
• Performs calculations necessary for construction staking and boundary analysis.
• Trains and supervises crew members.
• Completes other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduation from High School or GED equivalent.
• Valid Colorado Driver's License with an acceptable violation record.
• Ability to drive short and long distances.
• 4 years of field experience in the position of instrument person.
• Working knowledge of algebra, trigonometry, geometry, and geodetic control procedures.

Nice-to-haves

• Thorough knowledge of field practice and theory.
• Good working knowledge of general surveying principles and standards.
• Familiarity with equipment and methods, including duties of instrument person.
• Mastery of mathematics and geometry skills.
• Bachelor or Associate degree in survey or civil engineering technology.
• Land Surveyor Intern (LSI) or Professional Land Surveyors license (PLS).
