About the position
The survey crew chief oversees the daily field operations of a land survey crew. This role involves determining the most efficient plan of action for data acquisition for field surveys ranging from primary control through construction layout and as-built surveys, as needed. The crew chief is proficient with documentation of work performed and sketches, and communicates daily with the Project Surveyor and technician regarding the land survey project schedule and work progress. Interaction with client representatives and landowners is also a key responsibility. The crew chief must read and interpret construction drawings/specifications and understand all aspects of the land survey project specifications and tolerances. Additionally, the role includes preparing daily reports, time sheets, and other required paperwork, as well as maintaining the land surveying vehicle and field equipment. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily field operations of a land survey crew
- Determine efficient plan of action for data acquisition for field surveys
- Document work performed and create sketches
- Communicate daily with Project Surveyor and technician regarding project schedule and progress
- Interact professionally with client representatives and land owners
- Read and interpret construction drawings/specifications
- Prepare daily reports, time sheets, and other required paperwork
- Maintain land surveying vehicle and field equipment
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- 5+ years of industry experience
- Prior crew chief experience preferred
- Competent operating total stations, GNSS receivers, data collectors, and tablet PCs
- Experience with Trimble equipment preferred
- Strong computer and technical skills
- Strong communication skills (listening, writing, and verbal)
- Proven work history and strong work ethic
- Team-player attitude
- Ability to travel for extended periods of time
- Ability to work in all-weather climates
- Ability to walk long distances through various terrains and carry up to 80lbs
- Must have a valid driver's license
