About the position

The Survey Crew Chief at SAM is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a land survey crew, ensuring efficient data acquisition for various types of surveys. This role involves direct communication with project stakeholders, maintaining equipment, and preparing necessary documentation to support project progress and compliance with specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily field operations of a land survey crew.
  • Determine the most efficient plan of action for data acquisition for field surveys ranging from primary control through construction layout and as-built surveys.
  • Document work performed and create sketches as needed.
  • Communicate daily with the Project Surveyor and technician regarding project schedules and work progress.
  • Interact professionally with client representatives and landowners.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings/specifications and understand all aspects of the land survey project specifications and tolerances.
  • Prepare daily reports, time sheets, and other required paperwork.
  • Maintain land surveying vehicle and field equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of industry experience, with prior crew chief experience preferred.
  • Competent in operating total stations, GNSS receivers, data collectors, and tablet PCs.
  • Experience with Trimble equipment is preferred.
  • Strong computer and technical skills.
  • Strong communication skills (listening, writing, and verbal).
  • Proven work history, strong work ethic, and team-player attitude.
  • Ability to travel for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work in all-weather climates.
  • Ability to walk long distances through a variety of terrains and carry up to 80lbs.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
