About the position

Our Public Works, Structures & Survey group is looking for a Survey Crew Chief to join our team based in Duluth, Minn. In this role, you'll be responsible for overseeing surveying projects, leading a skilled crew, and ensuring the work meets the high level of quality LHB prides itself on. Responsibilities

  • Oversee surveying projects and lead a skilled crew.
  • Ensure work meets quality standards.
  • Perform utility locates & 4-way sweeps.
  • Conduct calculations for construction, boundary, and topographic surveys.
  • Train and evaluate the team's performance in the field.
  • Ensure surveys comply with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Prepare field notes, reports, and project-related correspondence.
  • Build and maintain solid client relationships with good communication skills.
  • Exercise sound independent judgment within general policy guidelines.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two years of previous experience working as a survey tech and/or crew chief.
  • Previous experience with 4-way sweep process.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Must be willing to travel 80% or more.
  • Ability to perform moderate lifting (50 lbs.), standing, and walking for extended periods.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • No revoked, suspended, or canceled driver's license within the last five years or three serious traffic violations within the last three years.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associates Degree and/or Bachelor's Degree in Land Surveying, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Total Station and GPS surveying equipment.
  • Experience using Trimble equipment.
  • Experience with ArcGIS and CAD software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team.
  • Strong work ethic, dependable, and motivated.
  • Ability to evaluate, plan, direct, manage, communicate, engage and oversee projects with varying degrees of complexity.
