About the position

The Survey Technician position within the Technical Services Branch of the Federal Highway Administration involves operating modern survey instruments and equipment to conduct various types of surveys, including topographic, bridge site, cadastral, and geodetic control surveys. The role requires collecting and analyzing data for design and construction operations, primarily in the Northwestern United States and Alaska. The ideal candidate will have experience in the Geomatics/Land Surveying field and be prepared to travel extensively for fieldwork.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on and resolve complex challenges involved in survey work.
  • Operate modern survey instruments to conduct various types of surveys.
  • Collect data electronically or in field books and make on-site determinations based on data.
  • Utilize and maintain modern survey equipment including Total Stations, GPS, and digital levels.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and eligible for consideration.
  • Experience operating modern survey equipment.
  • Experience assisting others in performing surveys and collecting data.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the Geomatics/Land Surveying field.
  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • Strong commitment to providing internal and external service.
