About the position

The Surveyor III - Party Chief at Mott MacDonald is responsible for leading and managing a survey crew for pipeline projects. This role involves planning, organizing, and directing survey activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations, and coordinating with engineering personnel and clients. The position requires strong leadership skills and a commitment to maintaining high standards of work while fostering an inclusive and diverse work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and direct work of survey crew for pipeline projects
  • Locate, review, and research job locations for identifying landmarks and significant land changes
  • Supervise and assist with the work of the survey crew, evaluate priorities, and coordinate work efforts
  • Keep records/data files and submit on a daily basis
  • Supervise and assist with the standard of work being performed and derive necessary field calculations
  • Supervise and assist with the maintenance of instruments and equipment
  • Ensure accuracy of angles, distances, and other collected information
  • Consult with survey supervisor/data technician and assist with final production of work
  • Coordinate findings with engineering personnel, clients, and others concerned with the project
  • Research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, and other records
  • Determine methods and procedures for establishing or re-establishing survey control
  • Keep accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe work performed
  • Complete daily logs and review survey crews' weekly timesheets and expense reports

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of pipeline surveying experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience leading a survey crew
  • Familiarity with commonly used surveying terms and survey tools
  • Proficiency in the operation of survey equipment such as Total Station Data Collector and GPS methods
  • Familiarity with software for downloading survey data
  • Knowledge of surveying methods for long routes and pipelines
  • Strong leadership skills and team-player attitude
  • Strong technical, documentation, and organizational skills
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, background check, and drug screen
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must be willing to travel
