About the position

The Surveyor / Party Chief position at Phillips & Jordan, Inc. involves performing various construction surveying tasks using Trimble GPS, survey, and CAD software. The role is essential for producing clear and concise results in a timely manner, contributing to the successful completion of challenging projects in the heavy civil and power infrastructure sector.

Responsibilities

• Train, educate and assist field personnel in the use and operation of Machine Control GPS equipment.
• Perform site localization and set-up, pre-surveys, production surveys, and as-builts as necessary.
• Verify Machine Control calibrations and maintain/troubleshoot GPS problems when necessary.
• Conduct site staking/layout and grade checking as necessary.
• Produce quantity reports for project managers and superintendents.
• Practice good recordkeeping skills for survey logs and records.

Requirements

• Strong mathematical skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, when working alongside all levels of management, co-workers, vendors, and clients.
• Experience with Trimble data collection software & surveying equipment.
• Proficient with MS Office software.
• Experience with drafting software (AutoCAD, Carlson) preferred.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret civil plans and specifications.
• Must be a motivated self-starter and team player with the desire to learn and advance.
• Must be able to work in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking and standing on uneven terrain and variable weather conditions.
• Must possess a clean driving record to drive a company vehicle.
