About the position

The primary job function is construction surveying work, which includes performing layout work from benchmarks and monuments to a construction area. The role requires the ability to close out a set of three or more points for elevation and coordinate location, including job site North and East, Longitude and latitude. The position also involves performing translations from various coordinate systems such as NAD 83 and NAD 27. Basic construction layout work using conventional survey equipment (theodolite) or electronic/optical equipment (total station) is required, achieving a normal accuracy of +/- 1/16". The candidate must be able to perform theodolite math to verify total station or GPS data and utilize a variety of modern surveying equipment, manual recording, computer-aided drafting programs, and databases to collect and record data of geological areas according to project requirements. Communication with architects, engineers, and construction personnel is essential during projects to plan and support multiple crafts.

Responsibilities

  • Perform layout work from benchmarks and monuments to a construction area.
  • Close out a set of three or more points for elevation and coordinate location.
  • Perform translations from various coordinate systems (i.e. NAD 83, NAD 27).
  • Conduct basic construction layout work using conventional survey equipment (theodolite) or electronic/optical equipment (total station).
  • Verify total station or GPS data using theodolite math.
  • Utilize modern surveying equipment and computer-aided drafting programs to collect and record data.
  • Communicate with architects, engineers, and construction personnel during projects.
  • Research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, and other records for data needed for surveys.
  • Develop new data and review data for accuracy.
  • Determine methods and procedures for establishing or re-establishing survey control.
  • Keep accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe and certify work performed.
  • Plan and conduct ground surveys to establish baselines, elevations, and other geodetic measurements.
  • Coordinate findings with engineering personnel, clients, and others concerned with the project.
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions.
  • Adjust surveying instruments to maintain accuracy.
  • Clean work area, tools, equipment, and restock materials as necessary.
  • Perform additional related duties as directed.

Requirements

  • Previous industrial construction experience (oil & gas, petrochemical, power, LNG, etc.) required.
  • 5 years' experience as a surveyor.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for describing features of land, sea, and air masses.
  • Excellent mathematical skills.
  • Ability to stand or walk for long periods; ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift.
  • Must possess a valid safety training card.
  • Must complete Matrix Service Basic Safety training and Process Safety Management training.
  • Obtain and maintain active status within the drug testing program.
