About the position

The Sustainability Data Analyst at the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) plays a crucial role in analyzing data to support the development and implementation of climate policies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions from buildings. This position involves creating data analytics tools, visualizations, and reports to inform sustainability efforts and ensure compliance with energy-related regulations. The analyst will work closely with the Bureau of Sustainability to enhance building energy efficiency and contribute to the city's climate goals.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze internal and external data sources to inform policy development and implementation.
  • Develop analytics and tools to support building energy efficiency and emissions reductions.
  • Create interactive dashboards and data visualizations to tell data stories.
  • Contribute to the development and operationalization of processes for the Bureau.
  • Refine KPIs and metrics measuring sustainability and building decarbonization.
  • Generate periodic and ad hoc reports on sustainability metrics.
  • Support staff across the Bureau with analytics needs.
  • Ensure quality control on data streams for sustainability metric reporting.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned by Bureau and Agency leadership.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree in a relevant field such as architecture, environmental science, or engineering.
  • Completion of a minimum two-year apprentice program in a construction trade with an emphasis on energy efficiency and two years of experience in energy generation or conservation work.
  • Four years of satisfactory, full-time experience in energy generation or conservation work.
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to the above qualifications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data analytic programs and software applications.
  • Familiarity with energy-related codes, rules, and laws.
  • Strong communication skills for storytelling with data.
