About the position

The Sustainability Program Manager is a professional role within Broward County's Natural Resources Division, responsible for leading sustainability initiatives and environmental outreach efforts. This position involves implementing sustainability programs, managing projects, and conducting public education to raise environmental awareness. The successful candidate will provide vision and leadership in developing outreach programs and policies, while collaborating with local leaders to promote environmentally friendly practices and reduce the county's carbon footprint.

Responsibilities

  • Lead updates to the Climate Change Action Plan and present updates to the Climate Change Taskforce.
  • Develop and implement governmental sustainability strategies to ensure compliance with county code and best practices.
  • Collaborate with local leaders to promote sustainability initiatives and reduce carbon footprint.
  • Manage contracts, procurements, and financial reporting of grants and vendors.
  • Oversee licensing activities and ensure compliance with guidelines and procedures.
  • Supervise subordinate staff and manage daily operations of the section.
  • Prepare reports for annual budget preparation and participate in various meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, chemistry, geology, hydrology, biology, ecology, limnology, engineering or a closely related field.
  • Three years of experience in environmental management or natural resource protection, including two years of supervisory experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in planning, engineering, environmental sciences, or related field.
  • Project Management Professional Certification.
  • LEED Certification.
  • Environmental Sustainability Certification.
  • Experience in securing and managing grants.
