About the position

The Sustainable Farms Corps Member will engage in climate-smart agriculture initiatives, providing outreach and education to underserved communities and BIPOC small farmers in the Central Valley. This role is part of the Working Lands Climate Corps (WLCC) program, which aims to develop technical skills and promote climate resilience through sustainable farming practices. Members will work closely with the Fresno Metro Ministry to support local food systems and empower communities through hands-on training and assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Work with technical assistance providers to develop the Farm Incubator Program and site infrastructure.
  • Train and assist farm trainees in implementing climate smart farming practices.
  • Conduct research, data collection, and troubleshooting in implementing farming practices.
  • Provide outreach, support, technical assistance, and education to underserved regional small farmers and community members.
  • Assist with on-farm resource awareness activities to reduce resource use and implement climate solutions.
  • Utilize NRCS Climate Smart Agriculture practice standards for training and educational purposes.
  • Attend weekly meetings with project staff for planning and reporting.
  • Attend monthly program meetings for reflection, project updates, and brainstorming sessions.

Requirements

  • Interest in agriculture, farming, and/or environmental sustainability.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfortable working with diverse, multilingual communities.
  • Ability to do physical labor and work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid California driver's license.
  • High school diploma or GED.
