About the position
The Sustainable Transportation Co-op position at the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is designed for students to gain hands-on experience in transportation planning with a focus on decarbonization and climate resilience. The Co-op will assist in analyzing the demand for alternative fuel infrastructure, particularly electric vehicle (EV) charging, and contribute to statewide studies that support the transportation sector's transition to lower emissions. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders and the opportunity to present findings that may influence future policy decisions.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the development and implementation of statewide studies and projects supporting transportation sector decarbonization.
- Support and monitor transportation program planning activities.
- Participate in team strategy sessions and stakeholder meetings.
- Develop geospatial analysis, data visualization, and transportation analysis skills.
Requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with ArcGIS software, QGIS, or other GIS software programs.
- Strong communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment with multiple competing priorities.
- Strong project management skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in communications and/or graphic design.
- Interest in transit, transportation, decarbonization, and/or land use planning.
Benefits
